There’s nothing quite like homemade pizza. This dough comes together quickly with simple pantry ingredients and is versatile enough for all your favorite toppings. You can keep it classic or mix in your favorite herbs and spices for extra flavor.
Ingredients
Yields 4 personal-sized, regular-crust pizzas.
-
3 cups all-purpose flour
-
1 ¼ cups warm water
-
1 tablespoon instant yeast
-
1 tablespoon sugar
-
1 tablespoon olive oil (or neutral oil of choice)
-
1 teaspoon salt
-
Optional: dried herbs, garlic powder, or spices of your choice
Instructions
-
Activate the yeast.
In a small bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for 10–15 minutes, or until the mixture becomes bubbly and foamy. -
Make the dough.
In a large mixing bowl (or the bowl of a stand mixer), add the flour, salt, and oil. Pour in the activated yeast mixture and mix until a rough dough forms. -
Knead.
Knead the dough by hand or with a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook until it becomes smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, add a little flour; if too dry, add a splash of water. The dough should be soft, but just pulling away from the sides of the bowl. -
Rest (optional).
You can let the dough rest for 15–30 minutes to make it easier to stretch and shape, but if you’re short on time, you can dive right in and start making your pizza. -
Shape and prepare.
Roll or stretch the dough to your desired thickness. For best results, coat the underside of your dough, your pizza peel, and your pizza stone with cornmeal to prevent sticking. -
Bake.
Preheat your grill to 600°F, being sure to give a few extra minutes for your pizza stone to come up to temp. Bake for 1 to 1.5 minutes, then turn your pizza one-quarter turn. Repeat until the dough is beginning to crisp and blister, and toppings are cooked through.
